How I would have fixed Music (2021)
To close this year’s Autism Acceptance Month, I want to look back and discuss what would Sia’s movie, Music, look like if it were actually well-written? Because in my opinion, the movie’s BIGGEST problem was its script. As an autistic person, and a lover of film, I believe the movie could’ve been improved a lot with a few easy fixes. For instance: - The autistic girl’s name is Music, so why not give her a hobby that’s actually related to music? You can keep her non-verbal, but have her be an aspiring songwriter who comes up with little rhymes in her head, and writes them down as song lyrics in a little notebook that she keeps with her at all times. Have the movie open on a little montage of Music writing song lyrics in her bedroom. - Then, after coming home from her daily morning walk, Music sees her grandmother, who presents her with a new portable keyboard as a birthday gift, until the grandmother unexpectedly collapses and dies. Music then falls to her knees, and starts
